My story of moving to Milton Keynes
We arrived at 57 Pinders Croft in 1978 from Rotherham, South Yorkshire. We being my husband, 3yr old son and myself.
At that time you could get a council home if you had got a job within the Milton Keynes area, usually near your work place. Unfortunately my husband worked for McCorquodales but at the Barclays bank building in Bletchley on the Barclaycard machines – so we should have been allocated a home in Bletchley.
We were given 37 Pinders Croft, a corner house next to the Rugby Club’s outer field. Behind the house was a wonderful Orchard with a path running through to the next croft.
My abiding memories of the time is how clean everything was. We had come from a really dirty area called Rawmarsh Hill in Rotherham, South Yorkshire, so to see the woman next door throw her washing on the grass before pegging it out was just amazing.
