Letter from Hubert Taylor to his parents dated 24th July 1945
Photocopy of a letter from Hubert Taylor to his parents dated 24th July 1945. Hubert writes that he is pleased his parent have received a food parcel in good condition, hopes that Gran has received hers and says that he has sent one to Jack and Lil. He writes that St Swithins day appears to have lived up to its reputation as there was “some storm” and asks if his parents took refuge in the cellar. He remembers when his mother used to get him up and he used to “carry on”. He writes that he is glad his parents had a nice day in Earls Barton and thanks them for taking some plums to his wife. He reports that she has bottled some and will save them to make a pie when he returns home. Hubert hopes that his parents are receiving mail from Secunderabad as he wrote a number of letters the previous week. He writes that he had received a letter from Frank saying they were having a good time and had been bathing in the sea every day. Hubert writes that he hopes Beryl’s boils are better for they must be painful in the nose. He writes that he has been very busy since his return to duty but prefers it that way. Hubert is sorry he lost a game at Newport particularly as his father has said “what a rotten green it is there”, but hopes they win the club singles. Hubert had heard that the demob is being speeded up so doesn’t think it will be long now. He writes about a dream where he was sent to a place to be demobbed but wandered all over England and could not find the place to go. He closes because he must go on duty although “he would rather go to bed”.
