Living Archive is a child of the city of Milton Keynes. Conceived as an antidote to the assertion that ‘new towns have no history’, it has been nourished and developed by a continuing source of wonderful stories from its citizens that can astound you, amuse you, and move you to tears. Such stories have inspired multifarious high-quality artistic, creative and educational activities which we devise and project-manage. The most powerful expression of such social history has been created at Living Archive over the past quarter of a century through the arts - community documentary plays, films, sculpture, song-writing, books, dance, videos, photographic and textile exhibitions.
Living Archive has developed as a cultural, educational and artistic agency by recording, archiving and celebrating this unique history of residents’ lives and sense of place.
Our mission is to enrich the community culturally, socially and economically by encouraging and facilitating high personal self-esteem and communal celebration by means of our basic premise: everybody has a story to tell.
We help citizens of Milton Keynes - both established and newly arrived residents - share a strong sense of community and pride of place; develop new skills; discover their creativity; collaborate with others; feel pride in their own and their community’s achievements.
