Letter from Hubert Taylor to his parents, 20 March 1945
Photocopy of a letter from Hubert Taylor to his parents dated 20 March 1945. Hubert thanks his mother for a recent letter sent on the fourth anniversary of him joining the RAF, noting that neither thought it would be for so long. Hubert feels that the bulk of his service is over now and he will soon be on a boat home since Allied troops have crossed the Rhine. He takes his mother to task for saying that she is not keen on going on a holiday, suggesting that she goes to Torquay, forgets about the war and relaxes. Hubert reassures his mother that he has everything he needs, including iced beer, and says she should not send another parcel. Hubert is sad to hear of “Nellies sad end” as she was almost human. He reports that his wife had told him that his eldest daughter had started Sunday school and was enjoying it a lot. A colleague from Wycombe has recently been posted to 7 B.S.U and Hubert notes that although India is a large country it is surprising how and when you meet old friends. He says he will be watching a station boxing match on Friday. He notes that Berlin is being bombed every night and comments on what a state it must be in. He congratulates his mother on completing her stocktaking. Hubert reports that he is having a day off but is not going far as it is too hot.
