Letter from Hubert Taylor to his parents 6 March 1945
Photocopy of a letter from Hubert Taylor to his parents dated 6 March 1945. Hubert begins by saying he has received letters from all family members that week and is pleased that his mother enjoys reading his letters home as he tries to keep them interesting. He is glad everyone at home is well, hopes his parents go on a trip to Blackpool which would do them good and congratulates them on a prize they won at a bridge drive. Hubert then talks about cigarettes which appear to have gone missing. This seems to be a common occurrence and colleagues are complaining about it fearing they may have been stolen. The authorities have responded by denying this and saying that there are problems with the manufacturers filling orders. Hubert says he has bought toys for the children and treated himself to a pair of sandals. He reports on an Air Pageant he recently attended where the Spitfire pilot performed some stunts. George Formby entertained the troops. Hubert is pleased with the progress of the war in Europe, particularly as Allied troops have reached Cologne. He is well although the weather remains hot.
