Letter from Hubert Taylor to his parents, Beryl and Frank, 14 April 1945
Photocopy of a letter from Hubert Taylor to his parents, Beryl and Frank dated 14 April 1945. Hubert writes that he is pleased his parents are going to Torquay but thinks they should have booked for a longer stay, suggesting they should stay longer if the weather is good. He predicts that the Allies will be in Berlin before the weekend and the war will be over during his parents trip to Torquay. He is glad about the progress his elder daughter has made since her illness and is pleased to have received photographs of both his daughters. Hubert is sorry to hear that “Wal” has been sent overseas as he is expecting a “happy event”. Hubert is sad to hear of the death of President Roosevelt. Hubert reports he is fit and well and, for the first time, has played hockey. However he got confused about the rules, shouldered a Sikh player and got pulled up for a foul. One of the sergeants congratulated him on his display and said Hubert should be playing regularly. Hubert reports a parcel of cigarettes has been received from home. He signs off wishing his parents a good holiday.
