Letter from Hubert Taylor to his parents dated 14th July 1945
Photocopy of a letter from Hubert Taylor to his parents dated 14th July 1945. Hubert writes that he is leading a quiet life for the rest of his leave. He had received some papers from home and enjoyed reading about VE day. Hubert has read the good news in the paper that the local lads who were in German hands have returned home. He cannot understand what the Government is thinking about the way the Italians “are allowed to go on”. Hubert writes that he has not heard from home since the letter of 24 June and wonders if his parents have been writing to Lahore. He has received a packet of cigarettes from home in excellent condition and although there were no details of the sender in the parcel presumes they were sent by his parents. Hubert appreciates his mothers kind thoughts but assures her that there is nothing he needs. He would like some of her “dainty pastry” but knows it is impossible for her to send any. Hubert reports it is very cool in Secunderabad and there has been a lot of rain. He wonders what kind of weather Beryl and Frank are having in Felixstowe. He hopes his parents will be taking a holiday before the summer is over and asks if the clocks go back this month. Hubert says that he watched a football match the previous evening and the weather was just right for it. He asks about his fathers progress at bowls. He writes that the war still drags on in Asia but thinks that the Japanese “will catch a packet” soon. He wishes his family well saying that they are ever in his thoughts.
