Letter from Hubert Taylor to his parents dated 22nd July 1945
Photocopy of a letter from Hubert Taylor to his parents dated 22nd July 1945. Hubert hopes his parents are having nice weather and are enjoying themselves playing bowls. He writes that he is getting his fill of sport this day as he played cricket in the morning and will be playing football that night. He reports that he saw an exciting game of football the previous day between the Royal Scots and another Army team and it was the best he has seen while in India. A Scots band paraded up and down the pitch before the game and it reminded Hubert of Wembley. He writes of “the Scotch twang floating around”. His leave ended with a “real slap up meal” and he resumes duty the next day. Hubert does not expect so much time off now as the duties have been altered but does not mind as the time will go more quickly. Hubert writes that he has not received any letters from home for a day or two but reports that the papers his parents have sent were appreciated and very much in demand with his colleagues, so he tells his parents that they “bring a bit of pleasure to others besides me”. Hubert reports that he currently has a big appetite. He expects Beryl and Frank will soon be back from their holidays and hopes they have had a nice time. He asks if his father has won any more rounds at bowls and signs off saying he must get dressed for that evenings football match. He wishes his family well.
