Letter from Hubert Taylor to his parents, 14 March 1945
Photocopy of a letter from Hubert Taylor to his parents dated 14 March 1945. Hubert thanks his parents for recent letters, noting that they now only take 6 days to arrive. He suggests his parents visit Torquay. He asks his mother not to send another parcel as he still has “lots of stuff” from previous parcels and there is nothing further he requires. Hubert mentions a photograph he sent home and says that fellows often wear their shirts outside their shorts as in the photograph because the “flapping about” makes them cooler. He comments that it is so hot that the water he washes in is warm and that it would be possible to fry an egg in the sun. Hubert comments on the whereabouts of colleagues who were with him in Wycombe and notes that Churchill seems confident the war will soon be over. He mentions a film show where the film broke about ten times resulting in cat calls from the audience. He signs off as it is time for tea.
