Letter from Hubert Taylor to his parents, 13th June 1945
Photocopy of a letter from Hubert Taylor to his parents dated 13th June 1945. Hubert thanks his father for his letter of June 3 and sympathises with the weather report at home, but says all the rain must have made the bowling green look good. Hubert notes that his fathers old regiment – The Royal Berkshires and the Northamptonshires were in the thick of the Rhine crossings and takes the view that it was one of the most brilliantly planned campaigns of the war. He is glad that “we clamped down on General de Gaulle” whose actions “make me mad”. He notes that the Russians have given General Montgomery a high honour. Hubert writes that Bev is a lot better and that he will be glad when “those tonsils are out” as they have been giving her trouble. Hubert notes that a big campaign is starting against Japan and that once Okinawa is in Allied hands “the fur will start to fly”. He wishes his family well.
