Letter from Hubert Taylor to his parents and Beryl and Frank , 11 December 1944.
Photocopy of a letter from Hubert Taylor to his parents and Beryl and Frank dated 11 December 1944. The letter has been badly photocopied so some words are missing. However Hubert begins by saying that he won’t be using air-graphs much in future as their use will be rationed. He mentions the price of other letters at 8 annas (nine pence) which might prove too expensive for regular correspondence. However he tells his mother not to worry and assures her that he will still be writing regularly as he knows it gives her pleasure and letters make him feel close to his family. He hopes his mother is feeling well after a recent illness and advises her to rest even though it will be hard work in the shop in the run up to Christmas. Hubert comments that the weather in India is not in keeping with the season and wonders what he will do in the summer as the weather is hot enough for him as it is. Hubert says he has noticed in the local papers sent from home that several old folks have died. He mentions the fact that one of his daughters did catch measles but has recovered, and is pleased that his younger daughter has put weight on. He acknowledges other news from home – a friend is clearly doing well in a local billiards competition – and says it must have been some sight for Beryl and Frank to see planes flying over, and thanks them for things they have made for his elder daughter.
