Coloured photographic postcard of Banbury Cross, Banbury, Oxfordshire. There is a large crowd watching a reconstruction of the English nursery Rhyme “Ride a cock-horse to Banbury Cross”. There are men in “medieval” costume holding pikes and a banner with a sun symbol on it. A lady in a white outfit sits side-saddle on a white horse. It is not clear if she has rings on her fingers or bells on her toes. The photograph is captioned “Banbury Cross at the bottom of the postcard and beneath that is printed the nursery rhyme itself. The card is addressed to Mrs E Pittam nr The School Castlethorpe Stony Stratford Bucks” and the message reads “Box and contents reached me safely and are nice ones, I have wrote to the lady and expect her every day therefore when she comes I will send to you immediately glad you are remaining and that you all are better yours respectfully E.S” The card is franked CHARLTON NORTHANTS MR 18 07.
