On Wednesday 8th September 1954 a Soapbox Derby took place on a course down Silver Street in Newport Pagnell. According to Gerald Stratton in his ‘Newport Pagnell in The Nineteen Fifties’, August that year had been so wet that PAG Productions decided to get in on the act and organise a Wet Week with a pram race, a soapbox derby and a crazy cake-making competition.
