The event was almost certainly the Coronation in 1953 – I remember the races across what we called ‘the green’, not to be confused with The (proper) Green which was a much older name. I was living with my grandparents in 4, Annesley Road at the time and it was my first experience of television, watching the procession from Westminster in a neighbours house.
