Feb 20 Wed. ‘Our Fancy Dress Dance, had to dance with ‘Young England’ as our boys are all away… Oh the Polka’.
Apr 26 Fri. ‘Oh dear, we are getting some casualties through, several around here’.
June 15 Sat. ‘Our Hospital Fete, looked rainy but kept fine all day. Many people there … gave Concert’.
July 3 Wed. ‘The patient much better. Hope I do not catch it as it is spreading all over the country’.
Oct 10 Thur. ‘Ethel and I went round with our Xmas parcel papers for Soldiers. Oh if we could only get Peace by then’ .
Oct 18 Fri. ‘Flu epidemic very bad. Everybody reeks with preventatives’.
Nov 11 Mon. ‘Misty and dull but what a great day. Hurrah – Hurrah – Peace signed at 5 a.m. this morn after 4½ years fierce fighting. Oh what will our boys be like tonight and today’.
Nov 23 Sat. ‘Went up to Hyde Park saw discharged soldiers. The King, Queen, the rest of Royalty such a grand day … I love London’.
Dec 28 Sat. ‘H. and I went up to London to Drury Lane Pantomime Pageant of peace, grand’.
