Jan 16 Sat. ‘At last the day has come round again, to go over to Mrs. Knapps and entertain the Blind, a treat we all looked forward to.’
June 27 Sun. ‘H. and I went for long walk to Gayhurst through fields, how peaceful everywhere is who would think we have such a horrible war on’.
Aug 2 Mon. ‘Went up in Car at 1.20 to Effie … The last kiss this side of that awful barrier of married life. … Wedding at 2 p.m. she looked very pretty as a bride’.
Oct 1 Fri. (Morecambe) ‘On the rocks again, had a long chat with soldier. They are a merry lot of lads for all they have been wounded’.
Nov 24 Wed. ‘… I hear from all quarters I am about to be married. There must be a lot of people with very big noses, to be so clever’.
Dec 21 Tues. ‘Hurrah for the shortest day, but I will not wish the days away, as I count each time spent in H’s company as the time will soon roll away when he will have to go, but I cannot think of that day’.
