Aug 6 Thurs. ‘Harry and I went on Spa (at Scarborough) to hear Band. Played English, Russian and French National Anthems. The people singing Britannia. … It made me run cold through and through to think of what fighting there might be just over there across the sea facing us.’
Sept 27 Sun. ‘A Grand day. H. and I with E. and W.F. walked across the fields to Little Linford Church. … We all liked Rev. Sill very much’.
Nov 8 Mon. ‘Ethel and I went to meeting to form a Com, to get up something to get money for Xmas Gifts to our Boys at the front.’
Nov 10 Wed. ‘Heard from dear old Bobby at last, no wonder we have not heard from him he is on his way home to fight for the dear Old Country.’
Nov 21 Sat. ‘Many Happy Returns to myself, had several nice presents. H. and I go down to N., had the best present of all from H.’
Dec 9 Wed. ‘Went down to Club, had practice for the coming concert at Mrs. Knapps for the Blind’.
