Wed. May 6th ‘Went to Wolverton Church. The Chancel was opened by the Bishop of Oxford.’
Aug 6 Thurs. ‘I got up at 5.20 and went for a ramble to Brayfield and Houten. Some sports in the afternoon and dancing at night, and nearly got pushed in the river only some kind of friend (a boatie) pulled me away.’
Aug 12th Wed. ‘Ettie and I witnessed a comedy in 7 acts and only 2 actors in it, it was very amusing.’
Sept 9 Wed. ‘War broke out again between the boers and the English. Kruger makes a fuss over a penny, we are called ‘mean’ the dispatches are rolling in fast, so is the money, the Blackpool Co. broken up. How we are enjoying life.’
Oct 24 Fri. ‘Mrs. Jones drowned.’
Nov 20 Fri. ‘Peace Perfect Peace the ‘War’ is ended.’
