House Sale Notice, 1908
This leaflet advertises the sale of 11 Church Street, described as a Freehold House and Shop, at an auction at the Victoria Hotel in Church Street in August 1908.
The house was in fact a butcher’s, owned by William Strange and the sale included a Licensed Slaughter House, Stabling, Yard and extensive outbuildings, as well as ‘the Goodwill of the old-established Butcher’s Business’.
It is interesting to compare with today the special features that the seller sees an attraction to a potential buyer – ‘1st Floor landing with dress cupboard’, …’bedrooms are fitted with expensive tiled register grates’.
