Object No.47

As part of the celebrations to mark the 10th anniversary of Living Archive, artist Philip Cox was commissioned to work with local people to produce some ‘Paper People’ sculptures, using local characters as their inspiration.

David Carter and Brian Lucas ran the butcher’s shop Carter & Lucas on the other side of Stratford Road . Also to be found alongside is the sculpture of Yvonne Richardson who was the Community Centre’s cleaner at the time. The sculptures are entirely made from cardboard, various types of paper, including magazines, and glue. No paint is involved – the colouring on the cheeks is from the dye in red tissue paper.
