Object No.38

This statue is by renowned sculptor William John Seward Webber. R.A. and was originally sited in the entrance hall of The Science & Arts Institute in Church Street. It represents an engineering apprentice looking at a piece of metal which he holds in his hand – possibly a casting of a valve seating for the cylinder of a steam engine. It was a gift from Mr. Alfred Bullard, who was a well known auctioneer, antique dealer and estate agent from Newport Pagnell.
