Interview with Roger Walker
Roger is an architect from New Zealand and owner of a building company. Roger was in the UK for a few months when the New Zealand High Commission sent him to the exhibition in MK. They helped him secure a site and helped with his finances. The High Commission thought that the house would be a little bit of New Zealand in the English countryside, so helped provide the landscaping. His company specialises in building Kiwi style houses and so a modified version was built on a plot at HomeWorld and was the only three-storey house there. Many companies in New Zealand helped with things like the carpeting.
Roger found the whole project lots of fun and helped with the building of it himself, as it was behind schedule, but the house was built in 5 weeks. It was of timber construction with high levels of insulation. The public were very positive about the house. It later sold for £55,000. Roger is hoping to visit the UK again soon, as he wants to see the house he designed and built.
