Interview with Jon Muncaster
Before HomeWorld, Jon was a Project Architect at Milton Keynes Development Corporation. He was working on the layout plans for Bradwell Common and it was this site which was chosen for HomeWorld. The decision was between a site in Bradwell Common and one in Oldbrook. Bradwell Common was chosen because the infrastructure was in place and it was near to the City Centre. Advance landscaping also took place at this site. Jon was responsible for the design and technical co-ordination of the HomeWorld site. It was 1979 when the idea started to take shape but after the election private housing assumed a more prominent role. The theme for HomeWorld was innovative housing. One of Jons favourite houses was a four-bed and a two-bed semi built for social housing using passive solar technology. He remembers the frantic rush to get the houses and site ready for opening day. Jon also remembers how well the landscaping was done.
He feels the public loved the exhibition but didnt really appreciate the innovations. His proudest moment was walking around HomeWorld before the public and dignitaries arrived having a last look. He believes HomeWorld was successful for driving the private housebuilding sector forward.
