Living Archive Milton Keynes is looking for a new Chair, as co-founder Roger Kitchen steps down after more than 10 years at the head of the Board of Trustees.

Living Archive has been the pioneer of documentary arts in Milton Keynes since the 1970s. Its creative community projects have recorded and celebrated the unique history and heritage of Milton Keynes for more than 40 years. Set up to disprove in real time the cliché that ‘new towns have no history’, it has been nurtured from the start by the belief that ‘everybody has a story to tell’. It continues to collect, preserve and share the stories of residents’ lives, whilst maintaining a unique digital archive of growing importance as the City approaches its 60^th year.

Living Archive has 3 part-time staff and approximately 30 volunteers, including 9 Trustees

We are seeking someone to take on the Chair’s role who

• will provide leadership to the Board of Trustees, ensuring the charity is well governed, financially sustainable, and focused on its charitable objectives.
• will partner the General Manager at important external strategic meetings and meetings with potential donors
• will act as an enthusiastic ambassador for the work of Living Archive
• will build and maintain positive relationships with funders, partners, local authorities, cultural organisations, and community stakeholders.

Knowledge and experience

• Knowledge of Living Archive and a passion for its present and past achievements
• Experience of leading a team
• Experience in MK/national arts and heritage scene
• Proven networking skills
• Extensive relevant contacts

Time Commitment

• Approximately 4–8 hours per month.
• Attendance at (usually on-line) Trustee sub-committee meeting with General Manager – currently 6 to 8 times per year.
• Attendance at quarterly Board meetings (including the AGM)
• Occasional representation at events, exhibitions, performances, fundraising activities, and stakeholder meetings.

Term of Office.

• Three-years
