Brian Stuart's Interview Summary
Brian was born in 1935 and first became involved with Willen Hospice when his wife was ill and was first admitted to the Hospice. She spent a total of 6 weeks at Willen. She had a beautiful room overlooking the lake and her family visited every day including her son coming over from Singapore with his family. Brian feels his wife was well cared for. As a Rotarian he had been involved in fund raising for the Hospice.
Whilst Brian’s wife was in the Hospice Brian trained to do a sponsored walk with some friends around the lake. He started with 3 laps increasing it by another but when she died he, together with the Rotary Club decided to support a community bus, calling it Hazel’s bus, which was really an ambulance for the Hospice. They set out to raise £34,000 and held several events with the help of local people and were very proudly able to hand over a fitted out ambulance to help the Hospice to deliver care at home.
