“The development of the new city has enabled Milton Keynes to become the most intensively studied archaeological landscape in this county. In the last twenty years the story of the people who have lived and died here during the past 10,000 years has gradually unfolded. This series of leaflets describes some of the many sites that have been discovered and which have now been integrated into developments or incorporated into the parks. This one describes the history of Bradwell Abbey, a former Benedictine Priory dating from the 12th century. Several of the original buildings can still be seen on the site itself.”
There are two maps which show where to find Bradwell Abbey.
Information is given about the history of Bradwell Abbey, the estate which was bought by Sir Joseph Alston after the Abbey closed down, and what was left when the Milton Keynes Development Corporation bought the site in 1971.
There is information of the Medieval Great Seal of Bradwell Priory and a drawing of it. There is also information of the medieval features still existing on the site.
