Over the past 40 years we have produced performances from large-scale documentary musical theatre to BBC broadcast radio ballads. We have been particularly blessed with musical talent over the years: our archive collections have inspired over 100 songs composed by local musicians about people who have lived in the area, and based directly on their words and events. They were all part of Living Archive projects, particularly celebrated not only in Milton Keynes’ 50th Birthday in 2017 but also for Living Archive MK’s 40th anniversary in 2024.
The Milton Keynes Song Book originally had scores for just 36 songs; now a further 40 songs are included. This second volume is available as a complimentary book to every school in the Milton Keynes Borough like the first, and all 76 songs are featured on the Milton Keynes Song Book website:
THE MILTON KEYNES SONG BOOK – Home (mksongbook.org).
This includes the background to each song along with a free download of the song scores as well as audio guides so there is a melody to hear, as well as musical backing to sing to or to play along with.
Our new generation of citizens can share MK’s special heritage that inspired the songs and hopefully help create an ever-expanding collection of home-grown music.
