Object No.74
Optical instrument, 1940s - 1950s
This item is called “The British Focimeter” and was manufactured by The Pullis Optical Company Ltd. of Brentford. They were involved in the immediate post war period with the development and production of a number of photographic and related products. They were considered to be unusual, often innovative and manufactured to high standards of engineering and finish. It was introduced so the Company could supply this British model alongside the imported German Zeiss Focimeter. A Focimeter is used to check if spectacles supplied match the patient’s prescription. It can also be used to find out the prescription of spectacles worn by the patient if the prescription is not known.
