All Change at Bedford St Johns
All Change at Bedford St Johns
“F. Cockman and R. Crane tell of the remarkable survival and revived fortunes of the Bedford-Bletchley Line.”
“On Saturday, May 12, 1984, a small chapter of British railway history will be made, one which could easily be missed by the vast majority of enthusiasts in this country. On this date it is proposed to close just one station, open to passenger traffic (May 14) just one mile of previously freight-only line and open the new halt just 150 yards north of the station which is to close! It is worth noting that the duly published closure proposal drew no objections at all from its users and that the change to this rural rail service is indeed heralded by local users and British Railways alike as a new beginning for a line that has defied closure for more than 22 years…”
There is a map of the line, photographs of the trains which have been used on the line, and Millbrook Station.
