Object No.95

Elizabethan altar stool, 16th century

Object No.95
Object No.95

Nobody knows exactly where this object came from, but as far as we know it has been in Holy Trinity Church since it was built in the early 19th century.

The church was built with patrons clubbing together to provide the finance and their coats of arms are painted on the ceiling across the nave and chancel. There are connections with one of the patrons and the medieval church at Finedon so it possibly came from there.

It is used as a serving table alongside the altar on which the Elements – the bread, wine and other implements for Communion are placed.
