Object No.13
Spike from old Wolverton Sports Club pavilion, 1901
This architectural feature (which might have been a lightning conductor) was on top on the original Sports pavilion which was demolished in 1974 to make way for what became the notorious yellow GRP building which was nicknamed ‘The Pineapple’. (see article ‘The Pineapple’ sports pavilion in Wolverton)
This building proved to be totally unsuitable for its purpose, was expensive to heat and maintain and was removed and is now reportedly a chicken shed in Somerset !
