View of a back garden of a house in Buckingham Road with the chimneys of the London Brick Company works in the background, Bletchley, Date unknown. The last chimneys were demolished in 1993.
I lived in St Johns Road Saints Estate and could see the brickworks and i worked there for sometime, Stacking bricks from the kiln six shillings per 1000 bricks good money, then Forklift Driver, Front End Loader and finally Dumper driver which back the was peace work and caused a 3 day strike one year because of the dust we stirred up until they bought a sweeper
I remember the Brickworks (Flettons I believe) at one time as it was near a mate of mine and his Dad was the owner and Baker in Fenny Strattford called Turneys Bakery where I worked on a Saturday as a bread roundsman’s assistant.
