ARC Wildfowl Centre: Managed by the Game Conservancy
“The Great Linford Project was started in 1971. Mr Rudolph Agnew (now Chief executive of Consolidated Gold Fields the parent company of Amey Roadstone Corporation) had asked the Game Conservancy to produce a plan whereby his company could make a significant contribution to wildlife conservation. At that time the Game Conservancy was carrying out trials on the possibility of developing wet gravel pits as wildfowl breeding reserves. The survival of ducklings on these new waters was very poor, and detailed biological research was needed to discover why this was so, and to explore methods of management which could overcome the problem…”
