Interview with Kathleen Lake
Kathleen tells the story of how her father entered a competition in the local newspaper to name one of the first new pubs in Milton Keynes. There were about 500 entries, and his entry to name the pub ‘The Starting Gate’ won the prize. As the competition was held just before Christmas, he was presented with a Christmas hamper from the mayor and his wife. Kathleen remembers the evening as being very exciting as they were treated like VIPs. Although she was originally embarrassed when she went to school afterwards, she was overall, very proud of her father.
