Edna Eguchi Read Exhibition at Milton Keynes University College
The film is about Edna Eguchi Read’s first exhibition and her showcasing it at the Milton Keynes University College. We also get a clearer understanding of why she created the exhibition.
It was filmed at Milton Keynes University College on 3 March 2009.
Students are shown walking past the exhibition and working on computers, whilst Edna is interviewed on camera. The first ten minutes of the film shows close ups of the work which are arranged on a lighted floor with students working on computers in the background. Edna is seen reading a book near the students.
The artwork shown includes ‘Who’s for Tennis’; ‘The Party’s Over’; ‘Mother’s Day’; ‘Dog’s Dinner’; ‘Christopher Robin is saying his prayers’; ‘The party’s over’; and additional pieces including a hat stand; a child’s tricycle; a birdcage; an electric guitar on a chair and a set of gold clubs
00:10:03 the interview then begins with Edna. She talks about what inspired her to do the exhibition originally and how she is now ready to acknowledge her Japanese heritage and create art work to spread the message against war. She is asked the question 3 times.
00:17:11 after the interview there is a shot looking down on the exhibition showing Edna talking with an older couple about her art and close ups of some the work.
00:23:04 the film cuts and then the words ‘After Hiroshima’ appear on the film, which is the name of Edna’s first exhibition, we then see the word ‘After’ on the ground with dirt blowing across it.
