Arts in MK
Film compilation of “Arts in MK” for the MK Arts and Music event weekend on the 16-18 July 2004. It shows an art exhibition in the gallery; a ball for the Great Milton Keynes Balloon Race; an art show and entertainment in Middleton Hall; a stage and music played at the Theatre District; a Proms in the park style evening concert in Campbell Park which included fireworks and music acts performing in Campbell Park in the day.
The opening scene is of a painting being hung in the gallery, several angles and shots are taken. Other artwork in the exhibition is filmed. The opening (?) is filmed and people are seen looking at and discussing the work.
00:10:41 The scene changes to a formal party in a marquee, some guests are wearing masks. Guests are seen arriving and mingling; a string quartet is playing outside the marquee; drinks are served and people have their photographs taken. There are several bunches of red balloons with “THE GREAT MILTON KEYNES BALLOON RACE” in the marquee. At 00:20:13 The guests move down to the seating area for the performance. At 00:21:54 A ventriloquist performs on stage using one of the guests as his dummy. From 00:23:48 one end of the marquee has been transformed into a disco and guests are seen dancing to a mix of music others are sat around tables watching the dancers and talking.
00:30:54 The scene changes to Middleton Hall, CMK. The space has been turned into a gallery full of artwork of every description, people are seen looking at and discussing the art. At 00:35:18 a man is filmed playing one of several pianos. The film then cuts to the Milton Keynes Hindu(?) Association stall and then to a children’s craft area and a young girl drawing on a paper plate. The film then cuts to the Asian Women’s Network Stall. At 00:36:59 Bongo drums are being played as an audience looks on. From 00:38:31 we see more scenes of the artwork and stalls in the exhibition. We see people talking to an artist while he works
00:43:40 The scene changes to the Theatre District CMK, tents, marquees and a stage with various groups playing. Around the stage is a black cover with “IVI Millenium Volunteers” on it and the backdrop behind the stage is white with black text “the Co-operative Group” People are seen sitting on the grass and standing watching the acts. One group are dancing.
00:50:20 The scene changes to Campbell Park in CMK, where a concert is being performed, people are seen eating and drinking while bands, orchestras and choirs perform on stage. Lots of Union and St George flags can be seen. At 00:55:28 we see a small beacon alight near the performance area. More proms music is played late into the evening, including Rule Britannia and Land Of Hope And Glory. At 01:12:29 a firework display commences while the orchestra plays on, more fireworks are seen to the tune of The Dam-busters theme and many others.
01:20:20 A lone folk guitarist plays on stage in Campbell Park on a different day as crowds look on, several bands are seen playing on this stage later.
