Copy of a letter from Albert French to his sister May in June 1916
Albert says things are quiet and he wishes it was more lively. He liked the parcel from Aunt and thanks May for the sweets and chocolate. He talks about how everything except cigarettes is twice as expensive in France as in England and is of rotten quality. He compliments May on her photo. He talks about the dugouts, wrapping up food to keep it from rats and mice and lice. He gives the names of some of the dugouts. He talks about the soldiers gone from Wolverton and the few men who are left. He comments on May and Will’s birthdays and how close they are to his. He describes the sights and sounds of shells and bullets. He sends his love.
