Bletchley's Other Secret
The History of Leon School 18070 – 2012 by Duncan & Grace Hume
What do you do after teaching in a single school for your whole career? Duncan Hume was given access to the Leon School admissions registers and logbooks dating back to 1870 and decided to spend the first part of his retirement using these to research the history of the school. Then there were former staff and student stories, alongside newspapers and other documents, as well as social media.
The book is not only an account of the schools themselves, but gives glimpses into the wider Bletchley community, including links with Bletchley Park and the Leon family, and national educational and social history. Grace Hume joined her husband in completing the reserach and writing this account, having also taught at the school in the early 1980s and from 2001 to 2014.
