John Wales was born in India where his father was a professor of electrical engineering and was then involved in the Second World War. John Wales talks about his childhood memories and going to boarding school, doing national Service and then working at Cranfield College of Aeronautics where he was researching wind power back in 1956. Tradition inherited from his family is going to church which he still does most Sundays. He is a church warden and describes the duties involved. Objects special to him are a metal tray and a necklace with coins in it both mementoes from his childhood in India.
