Week 2: SPORTS IN WOLVERTON
When a deceased neighbour’s house was being cleared, Jane and Steve Bryant rescued about 30 films that had been thrown into a skip . That neighbor was Ernie Arthur. He was a keen amateur film maker whose films captured local events and places in and around Wolverton. This very short sequence features the former open-air Swimming Pool and the Sports Ground, showing the original Sports Pavilion and the building that replaced it, the notorious ‘Pineapple’, that appeared in about 1972-3. It was demolished in 1980 and the shell was sold to a chicken farm in Somerset!
