  • I have a picture of the Wolverton fire brigade taken maybe around the time of the first world war. My Uncle Montague Linnell Smith is in the photo, 4 other people.

  • My father William (Bill) Temple was in the Wolverton works fire brigade during World War II. He, and the rest of the team were sent to help put out the fires in Coventry during the blitz. He would never talk about what he saw there except to say it was terrible. If anyone has pictures of the service during that period and up to late 50’s I would love to see them as I have very few pictures of him.

  • I’ve got the National Fire Brigades Union Long Service Medal to Charles Lyall Mason who was the Chief Officer of the Wolverton Works Fire Brigade.
Unfortunately I don’t have his other medals which were; Military Cross, 1914 Star & Clasp, British War Medal & Allied Victory Medal with MID emblem.
He was in the Royal Engineers, starting as a Sapper & finishing as a Captain/Temporary Major.
He served in ‘France & Flanders’ before serving with the Anzacs in the Middle East area & then returned to ‘France & Flanders’. He was Mentioned in Dispatches 4 times & was awarded the Military Cross in the King’s Birthday Honours in 1916.
