Peter outlines the structure & methodology of the Inquiry to hear 127 objections to the MK Master Plan. and his objection to the siting of the water and sewage works at Willen. The majority of the objections were ruled by the Inspector in charge, A.R. Chown, to be outside the scope of this Inquiry. Main objections were to: (1) The link road through Wavendon to Junction 13 of the M1: the route was later revised, (2) A link road to the A5D (whose line was not agreed at this stage). This was later built as planned. (3) The siting of sewage works and foul drainage proposals: concerns that the plans would not prevent more flooding or increased pollution of water following housing development. Not accepted. (4) The siting of the sewage works proposed at Willen. Peter describes in detail his objection to the site at Willen, citing the importance of preserving amenities for residents, presenting evidence from other new towns. The alternative was a site nearer to the M1 motorway. The Inspector considered Peter’s arguments ‘cogent’ and recommended re-consideration of the M1 site. MKDC selected the current site in December 1970. Peter reports on other objections received from local Councils and individuals, and which of these were upheld. Peter notes that some of these reflected residents’ critical opinions of MKDC at that time.
