Christine Lockwood
Christine first found her love for football playing with her boy cousins as a young child. She used to go and watch Luton Town with her father but is now a Spurs supporter. Harry Batt asked Christine to join his Chiltern Valley Ladies’ team, and she went to play in the World Cup in Mexico in 1971. The trip was sponsored by Martini Rossi and the team enjoyed a Police escort to get around. The team hadn’t realised the importance of the event they were going to. It took a while to acclimatise to the heat and high altitude in Mexico City. Christine got injured in the competition and had to give up football for a year for recovery. The girls were all banned for 3 months but Harry Batt was banned for life. After 50 years the team was reunited and appeared on The One Show. They are now called The Lost Lionesses.
