This was one of Inter-Action’s school projects that helped bring pupils’ learning alive. Four schools were involved during 1990, with two of them learning about the Romans and the other two about the Celts. The pupils were introduced to the project with a visit to the Roman villa site at Bancroft. Over a number of weeks each school produced different artefacts – for example the chidren of Bushfield School in Wolverton created a mosaic, which involved making the tesserae from clay. The project concluded with all the schools coming together on the Bancroft site, dressed in costumes and displaying their creations. There was also a battle between the Celts and Romans, and food was provided from a whole pig that was roasted on the site.
I have plenty more on the Bancroft Roman Villa Thriller Project. The poster, press releases, budgets, letters, copies of the story etc. The four artists who worked on the project were Debbie Dallyn, Jill Kitchen, Allan Davies, Wayne John. Marion Blockley from the MK Archaeology Unit was the driver behind the project. It was her idea to create a major educational project on the site. We worked with Water Hall, Bushfield, Bradwell Village and Two Mile Ash Schools.
