Gwen Morgan She/her
Gwen Morgan is a transgender woman and was born in Aberystwyth, Wales. She shared her personal journey of self-discovery, transition, and community involvement in Milton Keynes. Initially feeling isolated after moving to MK in 2001, she gradually built confidence through involvement with a Buddhist community and a local choir, but it was her engagement with Q:alliance’s LGBTQ+ brunch events that provided a safe and affirming space to explore her gender identity. From 2013 to 2017, Gwen transitioned from part-time gender expression to full-time living as a woman, eventually undergoing medical transition despite initial resistance from her GP. Support from the Open University and the LGBTQ+ community helped ease her social transition and she later volunteered with Q:alliance, offering mentorship and trans awareness training. Gwen emphasises the importance of visibility, the emotional impact of being true to herself, and her advocacy for trans inclusion, highlighting both the personal triumphs and societal challenges she has faced, including shifting political attitudes toward transgender rights in the UK.
