Jane Bidgood describes where she lives and the lack of community she feels there is in Milton Keynes. Recalls how all her family have been or are involved in the Guiding Movement describes the ethos and activities of Guides and Brownies. Her special objects are a watch chain now made into a bracelet and a table which both belonged to her grandfather. Talks about her grandfather’s childhood and experiences of the First World War and Second World War also about her extended family who had to leave Austria during the Second World War and her grandfather’s memories of being a fire warden and watching for enemy planes. She describes the watch chain and table and what they mean to her and where she keeps them. Talks about family name change from Smith to Bidgood and how her grandfather collected things in the Brighton Lanes.
