'Bigger, Brighter, Better' Script Act 2 Scene 7.
Scene 7
In the early 60’s there were rumours in the air about further town development in North Bucks. In 1963 Major Verney (a Bucks County Councillor) told Wolverton traders that he thought that in 5 years they would see an enormous development that would dwarf Bletchley’s efforts. In 1964 Fred Pooley, Chief planning Officer for Bucks County Council, announced his plan for a city built around a monorail , with its centre in Loughton. The plans did not include Bletchley and Wolverton. Bletchley reacted angrily -after all it had been the centre of e4pertisefor town development in North Bucks and it countered with proposals of its own. The Ministry of Housing and Local Government heard both sides and then decided to accept neither plan, but to build a new city of its own.
