Bigger Brighter Better

Bletchley Boy

Extract from: Bigger Brighter Better - Edited by Marion Hill
Mum and Dad said Bletchley was a lovely country town. I couldn't imagine what 'an estate' was - we came from a mass of houses. I couldn't imagine a new house in a country setting. - Michael Brace

At the top of Tattenhoe Lane, we used to pop across and go blackberyying. It's all houses now. And that was lovely, getting blackberries, and making a backbery and apple pie. And the bluebell woods. - Vera Barrow

On a Sunday morning, Dad always used to take me for a walk down Tattenhoe Lane, and sometimes we would fish for tiddlers, and walk up to tye farmhouse. - Wendy Checkley

Not many people had cars; most people cycled. A most wonderful sight was when people were finishing work at night, Buckingham Road would be absolutely glowing with cycle lamps. - Betty Watts

I can remember te house we lived in, in Bletchley: it was new; there wa no road; there was open farmland along the right hand side - the cows used to come down there and feed out of a trough. - Barry Brace
