Extract from: A Life Time Away - Memories of Childhood in Stony Stratford
"Blind Barley" came from Wolverton. He had a little dog, which used to bring him fromWolverton to Stony Stratford. It used to stop at different lamp posts and he'd always finish up last but two down the High Street. then he used to play his concertina and we used to put coppers in his mug. This old dog used to lay by the lamp post and, when anybody came along, he used to get up and stand and look at them and wag his tail. He'd got part of a spaniel brees in him. You know spaniels, proper miserable looking little dogs. I think he collected more money than "Blind Barley". He used to play about three little things and the little dog know when he was playing the third one. He used to get up and start stretching himself ready to go up to the next lamp post. I don't know how the dog knew which lamp post to stop at. He always stopped at the same lamp post...
