Story from the Archive
Film Productions

Living Archive established Young People's Film Productions to enable young people from a wide variety of backgrounds to express themselves and become involved in their community. Opportunities are given for participants to be involved in all aspects of ‘film-making’ - research; writing scripts; camera and editing work; directing and production. Professional filmmakers work directly with groups of young people, normally via voluntary or statutory organisations, to:

· create original film scripts for dramas, animations and documentaries based on the young people’s experiences of life in Milton Keynes, principally through workshops targeting those who do not normally access arts activities;

· create documentaries or docu-dramas about issues of concern to young people.

'Seeking'
and 'Darkness Visible' won the best documentary category in the First Light Movies Awards in 2004 and 2007 respectively. 'Seeking' also won the best documentary award in the Otic Short Digital Film Festival in 2004.

Living Archive has undertaken film projects with young people throughout Milton Keynes since 2000, making over fifty short films and helping young people get their voices heard in the community. The films may be dramas, animations, documentaries or docu/dramas, using drama sequences to highlight an issue. The subject matter and genre of the films are diverse (see our
Back Catalogue).

Music That Moves You’ was a recently completed Young Roots project funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund. This project enabled young people to research their family heritage and explore their roots though music. Six short family heritage films and a trailer for the documentary, ‘Merking Time’, can be seen on the website: www.myrootsmymusic.org.uk
